Trader Joe’s Corn & Cheese Arepas Reviews

Corn & Cheese Arepas: 7/10

🚨NEW ITEM🚨 Arepas are a traditional street food in Colombia and other South American countries. These corn and cheese arepas are two corn cakes sandwiched with a thick slice of mozzarella in the middle. The ingredients are very good and are corn, corn flour, mozzarella, and a little sugar and salt. So simple! The taste of the corn cakes tasted very similar to a corn tortilla but with the slight sweetness from the sugar and the texture was between corn bread and a pancake. The mozzarella was delicious but I found that it didn’t stay melty for long after taking it off the pan and the corn cakes were a little dry. These are definitely best eaten fresh off the stove and I can see why they are a popular street food. These would jump up significantly in score for me paired with some fresh pico de Gallo and black beans. Each box comes with two arepas for $3.29.

Did you grow up eating these? What do you like to pair them with?

  1. Real arepas are super easy to make! You just need the pan flour and mix it with water and salt. I make mine in the air fryer to make them crispy and then I love to fill with ham, cheese, and butter 😍
