Trader Joe’s Portuguese Custard Tarts Reviews

Portuguese Custard Tarts: 8.5/10

🚨NEW ITEM🚨 Wow oh wow was I excited to try this brand new #traderjoes item! I love trying new types of foods, and was curious to taste these Portuguese Custard Tarts. Let me know in the comments if you grew up eating these or make them at home 😍 Each pastry has a crispy, flaky cup around the custard like a croissant. Inside the cup like shell is delicious, slightly sweet custard made from sugar, butter, eggs, and milk with some lemon and cinnamon. I devoured these tarts for breakfast with a cup of coffee! I wish that the custard was slightly sweeter, but still enjoyed every bite. The texture and taste reminded me a little of creme brûlée! The tops of these tarts were caramelized which added even more richness to this breakfast. Each box of 4 tarts is $2.99 and the tarts are larger than I expected.

Have you tried these yet? What did you think?

  1. Thank you for letting me know about these! My fiancé and I are having a travel themed engagement dinner for our family and since we’ve been to Lisbon and Porto, these were #1 on what we wanted to have. Thank you again!

  2. I bought 2 boxes yesterday, and stopped in this morning to buy out the rest, and they were all gone! Sold out!! Store mgr told me there won’t be any restocks. Season’s end. 💔😭 I shall miss my mini dim sum time.

  3. These tarts are awesome. I’ve eaten them at several bakeries. These frozen egg tarts go neck to neck with any pastry shop. My only complaint is that I was told they’re seasonal. Which is ridiculous!! There’s nothing seasonal about the ingredients to the tarts. This item needs to be on hand year round. Thanks
