Cacio E Pepe Pasta Sauce: 6/10
🚨NEW ITEM🚨 Last summer #Traderjoes rolled out some incredible Cacio e Pepe items like the frozen pasta and the ravioli. Both were amazing so I had high hopes for this brand new sauce! Unfortunately, I didn’t taste the same great flavor in this sauce like the other items. I love Cacio e Pepe for its bold, black peppercorn flavor, but I felt like this pasta sauce was on the bland side and lacking that pepper flavor. I kept adding more sauce to my pasta, but still wasn’t getting much. It had a pretty good cheesy flavor, though. This sauce reminded me of the jarred Alfredo sauces TJ’s has on the shelves which also leave me wanting more flavor. The texture of this sauce is thick and spread nicely over the pasta, I just wish it was more flavorful. Cacio e Pepe is so easy to make homemade, I would easily pick the extra effort of making it at home than this pre-made jar. Each jar is $3.49.
Have you tried this yet? What did you think?
So good I did have to add some more seasoning into it but it came out amazing! I added some chicken mozzarella and basil To the mix
I was disappointed too when I opened the jar and tried it. Very bland! I tried it for dinner with some red lentil pasta and I had to add a TON of extra fresh cracked black pepper to make closer to the frozen one!
I just had this tonight. I give it a 3/10. It tastes just like an Alfredo sauce. Easier to most likely just make yourself.
I’m going to give it a try with some extra cracked pepper on hand!
@shawnslater I bought this for us to try
Here’s an of the wall suggestion. Add some sausage to this sauce and serve it over biscuits.
Animal rennet 🤮
@kaitlinmcdonoughh
We just tried it and added a few teaspoons of our salted pasta water to it to thin it out a bit since it was so thick. Warmed it up in a pan and added the pasta & water, kinda like a homemade cacio. Although making it fresh is the best, you can always add some pepper and a little parm to it so it’s a little closer to the real thing
I give it a 2/10
@jannelym11 this is the pasta sauce I got!
It was ok but I added seasoning to mine
Bought 2 jars I missed this review. Just kept adding cracked pepper
I think the same!
I love pasta but couldn’t finish this. I won’t be buying again.
I bought and thought it wasn’t great. I will make homemade instead.
After reading all of the reviews on here I’m glad i saw this so i could make a lot of improvements. Added a lot of heavy cream to loosen it up, sautéed some spinach/mushrooms and garlic in some butter/olive oil and threw it in with the sauce then added a lot of Italian seasonings and more pepper and lastly mixed in linguini! My husband and friend were ranting and raving. 🤣😂
What a bummer
I agree! It’s not like the flavor of the frozen one, it’s pretty bland it was missing something idk what it’s missing and although it wasn’t terrible it just wasn’t something I would buy again. Frozen one is so good though!!!
Tried this tonight for dinner- super bland! Their frozen cacio de Pepe is way better!
Not happy w this one. 2 out of 10.
I was hopeful but meh
I give this item 1/10. Absolutely awful.
I put three tspns of beef boullion sliced mushrooms and fresh shaved Parmesean and it was amazing.
I like this consistency more than lile heavy cream or half n half.
